Visit by Students of Master's Program in European and International Business Law at the University of St. Gallen

On August 30, 2016, students and others (19 persons from 9 countries) from the Tokyo module of the Master's Program in European and International Business Law at the University of St. Gallen visited the IP High Court.
 
They received from Judge Motoyuki Nakashima explanations on, from the view of characteristics of patent litigation at the IP High Court, the exclusive jurisdiction of patent litigation, the Grand Panel system, the roles of court clerks, the judicial research officials system and technical advisors system, details of explanatory sessions, the relationship between infringement lawsuits and suits against appeal/trial decisions made by the JPO, details of information dissemination through the IP High Court’s website, and other matters. The students actively asked questions about the time and background of the establishment of the IP High Court, language used for patent litigation, the number of judicial research officials appointed per case, the number of cases finally appealed and percentage of cases where a foreign corporation is a party, and other questions.
