On February 19 and 20, 2018, Judge Akira Katase of the IP High Court provided a lecture on patents in The 7th Knowledge Co-Creation Program with Indonesia for IP Litigation. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is conducting a project to enhance the IPR protection system in Indonesia with the cooperation of the Research and Training Institute of the Ministry of Justice. Judge Katase is a member of the Support Committee for the project. The aforementioned training program aims to reinforce the training system for judges engaged in IP-related cases in Indonesia. Fourteen judges, including Mr. Agus Subroto, Head of Education and Training Center of the Judicial Training Center of Indonesia, participated in the program.
Judge Katase lectured on the judicial system of Japan pertaining to IP-related cases and a framework for judgment on inventive steps. Ms. Elyta Ras Ginting, Trainer of the Judicial Training Center, and Ms. Nirwana Dirhamzah Pananrang, Judge of the Makassar High Court, lectured on the protection system on simple patents in Indonesia. Following the lectures, Judge Katase and the trainees exchanged views and opinions so actively that the program was able to achieve constructive results.
