Participation in 2017 INTA Annual Meeting

Judge Motoyuki Nakashima of the IP High Court participated in the Annual Meeting of the International Trademark Association (INTA) held in Barcelona, Spain from May 20 to 24, 2017. INTA is a global association comprising holders of trademark rights, trademark experts, and other members. Its annual meeting has recently attracted over 10,000 participants each year.
Judge Nakashima attended the Judges Workshop as a speaker of the panel, together with Dr. David Aschmann, Judge of the Federal Administrative Court of Switzerland, Marianne Grabrucker, former Presiding Judge at the German Federal Patent Court, Richard Arnold, Judge of the High Court of London, Hugo Gómez Apac, Judge of the Andean Community Court of Justice, Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, Rajiv Sahai Endlaw, Judge of the High Court of Delhi, Michael Manson, Judge of the Federal Court of Canada, Elisabeth Ohm, Deputy Director of the Norwegian Board of Appeal for Industrial Property Rights, Luis Rodriguez Vega, Judge of the Court of Appeal of Barcelona, and Junli Xia, Presiding Judge of the 3rd Civil Division of the Supreme People’s Court.
The workshop started by a public session where the judges used a case in Switzerland as a material for discussion and expressed their views on the case based on relevant laws of their jurisdictions (INTA Judges Workshop-Welcome to INTA’s International Court!-) (PDF4078KB). The judges then had a closed session moderated by INTA Adviser Iris Gunther, where the judges exchanged opinions on hot topics presented by each of them and deepened their friendship .
