Start of Judicial Symposium on Intellectual Property / Tokyo 2017

The Judicial Symposium on Intellectual Property / Tokyo 2017 has started on Monday, October 30, 2017.
The IP High Court was in charge of the today's program, the first day of the three-day symposium, which was comprised of mock trials on the theme of gathering evidence in patent litigation with participation of the delegates from Japan, China, Korea, and Singapore.
The judges and lawyers from the participating countries demonstrated procedures of hearing in order to grant or dismiss requests for examination of evidence in a patent infringement case regarding the device for building mobile phone network. The panel discussion following the mock trials focused on the reasons for reaching different decision among participating countries.
It was a rewarding opportunity to have a comparative review of legal systems of gathering evidence in each country and issues thereof through the mock trials and ensuing panel discussion.
