Visit by Judges from ASEAN Member Countries

On November 29, 2018, nine judges from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar and Thailand paid a courtesy call on Chief Judge Makiko Takabe of the IP High Court. The judges were scheduled to participate in the Judicial Symposium on Intellectual Property Advanced Seminar for ASEAN+3 2018 as speakers.
The judges heard an explanation of the current situation of IP-related litigation from Judge Akira Tanai of the Administrative Affairs Bureau, General Secretariat of the Supreme Court. Then followed explanations on judicial research officials from one such official and on explanatory sessions regarding technical matters from Judge Hiromitsu Magira in a courtroom. In regard to these explanations, the judges from the ASEAN countries exchanged opinions with Judges Shin Sano and Takuya Hazui. The judges from the ASEAN countries asked questions about the system of IP-related litigation in Japan. They also made comments regarding IP High Court judgments published in English on the website of the court that very deep consideration is given to highly specialized technology. They introduced the respective IP-related systems of their countries and actively exchanged views and opinions.
