On October 30, 2018, Presiding Judge Peter Meier-Beck of the German Federal Supreme Court, Presiding Judge Richard Hacon of the U.K. Intellectual Property Enterprise Court and Judge Richard Linn of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit paid a courtesy call on Justice Takuya Miyama of the Supreme Court of Japan. These three judges are the speakers of the program for the first day (October 31) of Judicial Symposium on Intellectual Property/Tokyo 2018.
After paying a courtesy call on President Michiharu Hayashi of the Tokyo High Court and Chief Judge Makiko Takabe of the IP High Court, the three judges attended the closed session with judges of the IP High Court and judges of the IP divisions of the Tokyo District Court and the Osaka District Court. The attendees of the closed session conducted active discussion in English, on topics involving IP litigation, such as use of expert knowledge and characteristics of management of court proceedings in each country.
