From May 18 to 22, 2019, Judge Sumiko Sekine of the IP High Court participated in the Annual Meeting of the International Trademark Association (INTA) held in Boston, U.S.A. INTA is a global association of brand owners and trademark professionals. Its annual meeting attracted over 11,000 participants this year.
Judge Sekine attended a panel discussion session of judges titled "International IP Court is in Session: Judges from International Jurisdictions Discuss Hot Topics in Trademark Law" as a panelist together with judges from Canada, India, the European Union, Germany, Brazil, China, Chile, and the Andean Community. At this session, the participating judges talked about the laws and recently hot legal issues in their respective jurisdictions, and Judge Sekine gave a presentation under the title of "Use of Well Known Trademark with Unfair Purpose."
