Participation in the INTA 2018 Annual Meeting

Judge Sumiko Sekine of the IP High Court participated in the Annual Meeting of the International Trademark Association (INTA) held in Seattle, U.S. A., from May 19 to 23, 2018. INTA is a global association of brand owners and professionals. Its annual meeting has recently attracted over 10,000 participants each year.
Judge Sekine attended at a session of judges as a speaker of a panel discussion together with Justice Manmohan of the High Court of Delhi; Judge Ralf Neugebauer of the Higher Regional Court Dusseldorf; Senior Judge Freyke de Bus of the District Court of the Hague; Judge Fidelma Macken, Former Judge of the Court of Justice of the European Union and Retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Ireland; Judge Elisabeth Ohm, Deputy Director of Norwegian Board of Appeal for Industrial Property Rights; Judge Enrico Dos Reis of the Lisbon Court of Appeal; Honorable Justice Henry Brown of the Federal Court of Canada, Judge Junli Xia, Presiding Judge of the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China; Justice Jose Ayu Prado Canals of the Supreme Court of Justice of Panama; and Judge Kisu Kim of the Patent Court of Korea.
The session started with a public session where the judges discussed brand restrictions for tobacco packages based on the legal system of their jurisdictions. The judges then had a closed session moderated by INTA Advisor Ms. Iris Gunther, where the judges exchanged opinions on various legal issues presented by each of them, and deepened their friendships.
